The Elder’s Section was formed in 1971 to coordinate the golfing activities of older Club members. Today the Elder’s Section has an enthusiastic and friendly membership of more than 70 members who enjoy a varied and comprehensive golf programme. There are no handicap restrictions to joining the Elder’s Section.

Elders’ membership is open to all male Club members over the age of 57. The annual Elder’s Section membership fee is £5, collected in November for the forthcoming 12 months.

The Elder’s Section meet every Monday and Wednesday throughout the year at 08:00 (08:15 in Winter) for an organised roll-up and on Friday mornings at 08:00 (08:15 in Winter) or 08:30, depending on the fixture, throughout the year for more formal activities.

These formal activities include:

• Twelve home fixtures and twelve away fixtures against prestigious local clubs, where matches are played as pairs in 4BBB format.

• An 18-hole individual Stableford handicap qualification competition held once per month.

• Two fixtures with or versus an Ellesborough Ladies team, played in pairs as Greensomes competitions.

• Several single-day Trophy and Cup competitions, trophies being awarded at an annual Elders General Meeting each November.

• Summer individual and pairs knockout competitions.

• Winter individual knockout competition, including a Winter Plate competition for 1st round losers in the main knockout, plus a 9-hole competition for those Elders who predominantly play 9-hole golf throughout the winter months.

• 3-ball and 4-ball better ball, Texas scramble and Bogey competitions.

• An annual eclectic competition.

The Elder’s Section also holds several social events throughout the year, which include lunch and dinner engagements with guests/partners.

The Elder’s Section holds its own Annual Meeting in November - the day after the Club Annual General Meeting - when competition prizes are awarded and officers are elected for the following year.
